360 Bridge Overlook on Lake Austin

Overlook on Lake Austin

You’ve probably seen this on the many Austin blog articles and Instagram posts. Let’s be real, being here to witness this gorgeous sighting is a whole new experience you have to try for yourself. The 360 Bridge Overlook, or Pennybacker Bridge on Lake Austin is a 0.5 mile trail sprawling across the river. Accessible all year round, this bridge provides a pretty magnificent view of downtown and beyond.

Frequented by nature lovers, hikers and the typical traveler, this bridge looks out onto Lake Austin, as well as the scenic backdrop of towering hills. We’d recommend coming here at dawn or dusk, just as the sun moves behind the hills and casts a warm glow over the river. The best part? It’s only about a 10 minute trek and the pay off is definitely worth it.

The Boardwalk at Lady Bird Lake and Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge

Lady Bird Lake

Lady Bird Lake is one of Austin’s most popular attraction spots, and it’s easy to see why. Constructed by the city for the primary purpose of flood control, it doubles as a recreational spot for locals and travelers alike because of its beautiful shoreline and hiking trails. When in Lady Bird Lake, you can find the best photo ops in two main spots: The Boardwalk and the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge.

The Boardwalk is a 1.3 mile portion of Ann and Roy Butler Hike-and-Bike Trail that extends over Lady Bird Lake. On the Boardwalk you’ll find Ken Little’s homage to the city’s love for music in his art installation, Belting it Out. It features 36 cast bronze, western-style belts integrated into the railings on both sides of the Boardwalk. Song lyrics from well-known Texas singers and songwriters are embossed on each belt. While you’re out, don’t forget to look out into the city’s skyscrapers and beautiful skyline.

The Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge is for pedestrians and cyclists alike, which downtown Austin has no shortage of. The bridge itself is a sight to behold, with a V-shaped structure looking out onto the scenery of the lake’s pristine waters.

Mount Bonnell

Mount Bonnell

If you’ve seen photos of Mount Bonnell, you could probably already tell that this place is made to be captured on camera. This prominent point is perched above a 102-stair climb and overlooks Lake Austin and Austin in its entirety. It’s one of the best destinations for an unobstructed view of the city, if you’d ask us.

For the most scenic views in Austin, we’d recommend going all the way up to the viewing deck and pavilion. Mount Bonnell is located close to the city center and is worth the trip!

Auditorium Shores at Town Lake

Butler Park Austin Texas

Auditorium Shores is an open-spaced urban park that is often used to host festivals, events and more in the city. Located in the heart of the city, this green field opens up to an epic view of the city skyline, reflecting on the waters of Town Lake. It’s completely dog-friendly too, with it’s own built in dog park, get insta-shots with your fur-friend!

If you don’t have a pet, that’s fine too! Round up a few friends and capture the essence of this lively park with the backdrop of the beautiful city.

Zilker Park

Zilker Park Austin Texas

Another gorgeous park nestled in the heart of Austin is Zilker Park. Surround yourself in lush, breathtaking nature right in the middle of urban Texas. This over 350-acre green space is loved by Austinites and travelers coming by. Whether it’s a picnic, a bike ride, canoe in the river, disc golf, or an afternoon plunge in their barton springs, there is an activity here for everyone.

Visitors who come to Zilker Park especially love how primed it is for nature photography. So remember to bring your camera to take snapshots of you and your friends having fun against the gorgeous backdrop of this urban oasis known as the “jewel in the heart of Austin”.

Landscapes in Austin – Barton Creek Greenbelt

Barton Creek

Barton Creek Greenbelt is an outdoor enthusiast and adventurer hotspot going through South Austin. There are a few access points to this area, starting with the spring-fed Barton Pool in Zilker Park. Other than that, you can also visit Campbell’s Hole or Gus Fruh, two stunning swimming holes located in Barton Creek. Especially after it rains, the glistening rocks against the deep blue waters are great for striking a few poses and taking a cooling plunge.

Other popular spots within the Barton Creek Greenbelt are the main access point to Twin Falls and Sculpture Falls. Some of the treks here are quite a steep climb, but you’ll be rewarded with magnificent views of the lush nature and a gorgeous view of the mountains behind.

Landscapes in Austin – Lake Travis

Lake Travis

The turquoise waters on Lake Travis are one of the best landscapes in Austin. If you’re looking for jaw-dropping, picturesque views in Texas Hill Country, this is it. With an array of restaurants and viewpoints, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to photo ops in the area.

The picture-perfect backdrop is even more stunning during the sunset, and there are a few places to truly capture the best shot for your photo album. For starters, Pace Bend has sweeping views of Lake Travis that will work best on your wide lens. If you’re fancying a cocktail while watching the sun set, we’d recommend going up to The Oasis. This restaurant and bar has the most scenic view of Lake Travis. If it gets too crowded, there are a few other restaurants in the area which provide a great overlook onto the pristine waters and cliff backdrop.
